It was by sheer luck that Paul and I found ourselves seated at the bar at Gary Danko. A James Beard award winning Best Restaurant and Best Chef- those bar stools are rare real estate. Gary Danko's second Michelin Star this year only solidified their standing as one of California's best restaurants.
We had no reservation. Blinded by the diamonds in the room I stood by the bar in my jeans and DENIM button up while waiting to be seated at the bar. I felt uncomfortable for one moment until we were whisked to our seats. Then the fun began.
Our sever was out of this world. Super friendly, knowledgeable, enthusiastic.
We each chose the 3 course tasting menu. But rather than an appetizer, entree, and dessert we could mix it up a bit.
For me:
Foie Gras appetizer
Appetizer sized portion of the Maine Lobster course
Full sized fillet with a potato and bacon risotto
Wine with everything
Split for dessert- Warm Louisiana Butter Cake with Apples, Huckleberry Sauce and Vanilla Bean Ice Cream
Then this came out....
One of the best meals of my life!
